The art of CBD dosage

Finding your own sweet spot!

Each individual is constructed uniquely on a cellular level due to genetics and life experiences eg trauma, stress and illness that in turn triggers cells to communicate (or miscommunicate) in their own way affecting the immune system, mood and general feeling of well-being. The aim of using CBD (Cannabidiol) is to supplement naturally produced endocannabinoids and awaken the endocannabinoid receptors in our bodies in an attempt to regulate communication and fix miscommunication between cells enabling our bodies to auto correct on a cellular level. CBD (Cannabidiol) can encourage the optimal functioning of our endocannabinoid system. If the endocannabinoid system is in balance it can support our immune system, regulate pain, regulate mood and improve our general feeling of well-being.

Because we are all so unique the amount of CBD that will work for our specific needs will differ for every person.

CBD works differently for everyone depending on weight, what your focus is for usage, your gender and just how your body reacts to things. It’s going to take trial and error to find the right dosage, don’t despair, don’t give up you just have to figure out your CBD sweet spot.

Listen to your body, from time to time you might need a little less or a little more.

Method 1:

Hourly micro dosing.

By following the method of hourly micro dosing, you will explore the path towards the correct dose in order to optimise the therapeutic benefits of cannabis and its effect on your general health and wellbeing.

If you are currently taking CBD it is recommended to abstain from CBD or any Cannabis products for two (2) days before starting this method in order to reset your tolerance.

The micro dosing technique is an approach to use for 2-3 days to experiment with your body’s optimal dosage level. During hourly micro dosing the endocannabinoid system and receptors are awakened to the effect of cannabis. Once you find your optimal dosage level u switch to taking your optimal dose two or three times per day based on what works best for you and your needs.

How to:

Consume 1 drop of CBD oil placed under your tongue. Before consuming, ask yourself 4 questions and answer on a scale of 1 to 10:

  • how easy is it to breathe?
  • how comfortable and calm does your body feel?
  • how easy is it for you to smile authentically, to feel content and grateful?
  • what is your discomfort level

After writing down your scores, take the CBD oil, wait 45 minutes and ask yourself the questions again. If there’s been no change in your scores and you’ve felt no effect, increase the dose by one drop.

Repeat the process over the next few days, increasing the dose by small increments. When you reach a point where you feel a difference after consuming, you’ve found your minimal effective serving size.

At this point, continue raising the dose by tiny amounts. At some point, there will be no further benefit from a higher dose. You’ve established your therapeutic range and can take the minimum dose.

Continue to experiment with the timing of consumption to find what works best for you. (Source: Why Micro dosing Is Taking Over Medical Marijuana, Rolling Stone article by Sara Davidson, April 20, 2017)

Method 2

Each CBD product will come with its own dosing guidelines and the concentration of CBD in the bottle, which will be noted in milligrams. It is up to you or in conjunction with your medical practitioner to experiment and find the optimum minimum dosage that works best for your needs. Always start with the smallest possible dose and increase it from there until you experience the desired effect that you want to achieve.

Do not be tempted to immediately start with a high dose as this might jeopardize the effectiveness of the product. A too high dose might cause an increase in your symptoms if you fall off the bell curve.

We say, start low and adjust incrementally. Spread it through the day. Don’t take the full 20 mg recommended daily dosage in one go.  Don’t move from a CBD dosage of 5 milligrams to 10 milligrams overnight.

Be patient and do not get discouraged if you do not achieve the immediate results you were hoping for. Remember that your body must rewire and adapt to the product.

  • Take your time to find out what’s just right.
  • Keep going.
  • Keep records.

You will find your sweet spot!

Tips on CBD dosing:

  • Gently shake your bottle of CBD oil before use
  • Place the drop(s) under your tongue and hold it there for at least 30-60 seconds. You want the oil to absorb sublingually into your bloodstream.
  • Note that 1 drop of oil is NOT equal to 1 ml of oil. Make sure that you understand the difference between the mg, ml, and drop terminology.
  • Store your CBD oil at room temperature away from direct sunlight.
  • Use within 2 month after opening.
  • Do the research and learn through the experiences of others.
